Portrait of an Artist as a Young Woman

Recently, I had a blast of photographing Nicole's senior pictures. No, she is not soon to graduate from high school, but will be accepting her degree in art education from Elmira College in New York later this week. She's such a smarty and finished in December, and has spent the last semester substitute teaching and leading children's classes at the Littleton Studio School.

Nicole is a 2011 graduate of Profile School, which is where we met. The two of us had moved north of the notch from southern New Hampshire, ironically, from the same town. I was wearing my middle school field hockey sweatshirt to our Honors Geometry class when she recognized the name. Turns out, we both went to East Derry Memorial Elementary School and our mothers were on the PTA!

I watched Nicole flourish in her art classes, admiring the rubber ducky paintings she did senior year. Ceramics are her favorite, and she always brings a beautiful variety to the Local Works Market in Bethlehem.

Nicole has accepted a teaching position at Bethlehem Elementary School, and will continue to offer her popular children's classes at the Littleton Studio School. Her art can be found on her Facebook page, Coley's Creations, and her website is currently under construction.
