I’ve Been in Business for 10 Years and Here’s What I Want You to Know

I’ve been in business for 10 years and have certainly gained some lessons and regrets. Here’s what I want you to know:

Watch the Reel!

#1 Charge More

Not charging enough has been my top regret and it totally stunted the growth of my business.

If you’re unsure of what to charge, check out my Begin Your Business online course. It’s free!

#2 Spell Out Your Terms

If you’re a maker or retailer, include return policies on your website and in store.

If you’re a service provider, always have a contract and/or make your cancellation and other policies easy to find on your website.

My website design contract recently went from 3 to 8 pages because I realized it was lacking.

My new contract sets better boundaries by ensuring projects don’t drag out and that I’m not putting in extra work without getting paid.

#3 Don’t Overwork Yourself

In the beginning you’re likely maintaining a full-time job while building your business on the side. But don’t keep that hustle mentality forever.

I’ve burnt myself out so many times and have come to realize that when I take time off I’m actually more creative and productive.

And if you charge adequately and have policies in place, you’ll be less likely to take on more work than you can handle and more likely to say no to work that doesn’t align.

My top tip to prevent burn-out? Set strong boundaries from the get-go. (Having a legit contract is a huge part of this. ;)
