Why Your Facebook Page is No Substitute for a Website

Are you a business owner or freelancer? Then you need a website.

And no, a Facebook page won’t cut it!

I get it, websites are a lot to design and can be costly to hire out. But a website is your ultimate marketing tool that is waaaay more effective than social media alone. Here’s why your Facebook page is no substitute for a website:

Websites make your business look more reputable

According to a recent survey, 84% of participants believe that a business with a website is more credible than one that only has a social media page.

Furthermore, only 55% of consumers trust information found on a business’ social media page. Instead, they turn to the business’ website for more accurate and up-to-date information.

Websites hold attention

On a Facebook page, it’s easy to click on another competitor’s page or be diverted to incoming messages and notifications. When someone is on your website, there are much fewer distractions.

Websites are more in-depth info

Social media is supplemental to a website. Captions are limited to so many words, meaning you can only share so much information in posts.

Not only that, social media is meant to be dynamic, meaning you’re frequently posting new content. Which means your main informational posts can get buried beneath your updates. Yes, you can pin one post to the top of your Facebook page and three posts to the top of your Instagram profile, but a website allows you to present all pertinent information in one, well organized, beautifully designed place.

But above all, your website is where potential clients/customers will book your services, buy your product, or check out your menu.

Search Engine Optimization

According to a consumer survey, 77% of respondents use Google to find information about local businesses, whereas only 38% of respondents used Facebook.

And speaking of reach, fewer people are engaging with Facebook these days. 44% of millennials removed their Facebook app, and Facebook is one of the least popular platforms amongst Gen Z.

A website can be fully customized to your brand, allowing your potential customers to build a deeper connection with, and recognition of, your business.

 

Facebook could disappear

While it sounds highly unlikely, Facebook - and other platforms - could shut down at any time, taking your main internet presence with them. You own your website and can transfer to a different host if need be.
