WTF is Threads?

No, you do not have to create a Threads account for your business.

(But you might as well because it’s so easy. And with any platform, early adopters are rewarded with engagement. You can also set it and forget it so you can begin building your followers now and dive in when you’re ready.)

Watch the Reel!

What is Threads?

A text-based platform, Threads is supposed to be more thought sharing and community than marketing and influencing.

(With the mess happening over at Twitter and Instagram users complaining about the algorithm’s emphasis on video, Meta decided to compete while going back to basics.)

→ If you have an Instagram account, setting up Threads is easy. You can use your IG login to access threads and flood your bio over. You can also mass follow the Thread accounts of the people you follow on Instagram.

X If you decide to deactivate your Threads account, your Instagram account will be deactivated as well. #dumb

→ Posts are text-based and referred to as “threads.” You can also post photos and ups to 5 minute videos, which appear below the text of your thread, like Twitter.

→ For now the feed is algorithmic. This may change, but the theory is that because Threads is new and has limited users, people don’t follow enough other people yet.

(Instagram has 2.35 billion users while Threads is at 55+ million as of this post.)

→ There are no ads - yet.

→ No hashtags either. #praisethelord

→ And no DM inbox.

Threads Strategy

As Meta’s answer to Twitter, the strategy is similar.

But first, early adopters of new platforms tend to be rewarded with higher engagement.

So your first strategy should be to get on there and build momentum.

Post engagement-producing Threads

This can be memes, questions, your thoughts with a question, etc.

(Questions can be “this or that” style, something that asks people to brag about themselves, thoughts on a topic, etc.)

Avoid going hard on sales, marketing, and anything promotional. Threads is meant to be a thought sharing community, not a pitch platform.

Engage

Reply to other Threads, but make sure to add value.

Get to know the platform

This is where everyone’s at because Threads is so new. As we all gain a better understanding of the Threads culture, we’ll be able to craft a more effective strategy.

Pay attention to the Threads that are gaining momentum in terms of content types, topics, and the origin industry.

Don’t Panic

If learning a new social media platform is going to burn you out, don’t do it.

It’s more important to commit to a minimum of two platforms and build them on quality than scatter yourself across several and being ineffective at all of them.

If you’re on Threads, what do you like about it?
