What's The Difference Between Branding and Marketing?

This October I’ll have been in business for ten years. Huge, right?

To celebrate I’ve decided to rebrand, meaning I’m having my logo redesigned and adjusting the fonts and color palette associated with my business.

There’s a lot of buzz about someone’s “personal brand” or a business’ “brand” (i.e. “That’s so on brand!”) but how does it relate marketing and what exactly is a brand?

Branding is a part of marketing, but you wouldn't have marketing without branding because branding is the foundation.

It's what you stand for, who you serve, and how you look doing it.

Branding is your mission statement, your logo, fonts, colors, your brand voice (copywriting style), and then some.

Marketing is promoting your business’ offers via social media, email marketing, advertising, etc.

Marketing attracts new customers, branding keeps them.

Both are essential, and it's important to know your brand inside and out whenever you create a new marketing campaign.

Discover how to nail your business’ brand in online Self-Employed School. We’ll compare and contrast Ben & Jerry’s brand with Häagen-Dazs’ brand to help you identify how each business’ voice and look is unique - even if they sell the same thing!

We’ll also dive into the elements of a brand and how to choose your colors, typography, and copywriting style.
